Homeschooling During the Holidays
The holidays are here and as a homeschooling mom I always feel this sense of stress when it comes to how our schedule looks during this time. Homeschooling does not mimic the traditional public school schedule so our school days range from 1-2 1/2 hours a day. So, as the holidays approach I constantly go back and fourth if we should take a 2 week break or keep going because we don’t spend 8 hours, Monday-Friday focusing on schoolwork. I find myself stressing out about this more than I need to and this year I am telling myself “no more”. No more stressing or putting pressure on myself about something that is not that big of a deal. So, I decided that I won’t focus so much on planning in advance but rather take it day by day. I can use this time to spend more time away from those core subjects and go out and give my children the opportunity to learn from their environment and their community.
If you are feeling the same way or have felt the same way in the past then let this be a reminder to enjoy the holidays with your kids. Live in the moment because they don’t last. Take it day by day and don’t feel that pressure to plan in advance. Holidays are meant to be enjoyed and spent with my family and for us homeschooling we have even more time to do that.
So, for those reading, enjoy the holidays with your kids and do what is easiest and best not only for your kids but for yourself this holiday season.
